Midwives provide safe services for women with low-risk pregnancies.
Midwifery services are publicly funded health services since January 1998.
B.C. midwives now deliver nearly 14% of the province's babies each year - more than 5,500 newborns. In Victoria, almost 30% of the births are attended by midwives.
